Soft ground etchings are created by a lengthy process starting with a sheet of highly polished copper (read the complete definition online). The first few etchings are called “proofs” and the finished run of etchings are called “editions.” Sometimes, I like to mix things up and add watercolor to the completed black ink etchings.
